A Consciously Chosen Location

Karjat was a deliberate choice for Peacock Life, providing Shabnam the freedom to create without urban constraints. Surrounded by nature’s quiet inspiration, it reflects her desire to “slow down, step away from the sterile, and let design breathe.” The location’s peaceful charm perfectly aligns with the store’s ethos of soulful, grounded creativity.

The store’s design draws deeply from vernacular architecture, seamlessly woven with Peacock Life’s maximalist spirit. Sustainability and respect for craft heritage are central to its creation. Wherever possible, materials have been locally sourced to minimise transport impact and support regional artisans.

The flooring features locally sourced Shahabad stone, known for its durability and naturally mottled texture. Traditional Mangalore tiles were chosen for roofing due to their climate-friendly qualities that keep interiors cool.

Walls are finished with custom-made, hand-crafted tiles and earthy Dalmia plaster, evoking the texture and warmth of mud walls. Historic architectural elements give the space character and soul, including century-old ceiling panels from Rajasthan, restored rosewood pillars from Pondicherry and Karaikudi, and repurposed vintage window frames, each thoughtfully integrated to reduce waste.

The signature “Shabnam Blue” highlights outdoor spaces while natural earth tones give warmth indoors, complemented by a pristine white exterior facade.
