Scale has been fascinated with the process of designing and the story behind each conception. With Baker Street Boys the process is even more fascinating with the amount of thought behind each work. Baker Street Boys is a design and art project that plays with geometry, contrasts, lines and natural, unspoiled materials, founded in London by Arek Glanowski and Tomasz Danielec.

Uniqueness of their works is defined through the simplicity and functionality of forms enriched by sculptural value.

Their latest work, The Box Collection, a product of the lockdown times, is a set of sculptural objects representing the collaboration between the artists and the creative forces of nature. It consists of three rotatable tables and a bar stool. Simple form and rich pattern make it a unique piece of functional art with a strong environmental statement.

The Box Collection is a set of sculptural objects representing the collaboration between the artists and the creative forces of nature. It consists of three rotatable tables and a bar stool.

Designer Tomasz teamed up with his younger sister Agnieszka Bar to create this reclaimed creation. “To harness ‘destructive’ forces of nature it requires many weeks of accurate and precise work on each of the patinas. Using acid as a paint and grinder as a brush, we tried to break the conventions in order to achieve unusual results,” explains Tomasz. The unpredictable reactions of rust guides them through the process which makes nature a co-creator of the design.

The collection was finished and launched during the lockdown, documented at the IGTV series of the design group as, ‘The Lockdown Journal‘.

“’Ordinary’ rust transformed into a luxury pattern and unveils its deep, meditative nature. It can be perceived as abstract paintings, galaxies, waves etc., activating the user’s imagination. Each side of The Box acts as a separate canvas for creation but all together they form an extraordinary composition,” says the designer.
