Reimagining Car Parks with Jotun

Jotashield Carbo, a new designed and tested product for car parks,was recently launched by Jotun. This innovative product promises car parks that are less dingy,more vibrant and that resolves damages specific to car parks with its unique anti-carbonation feature.

Carparks are dreary, gloomy, dark and boring spaces that look as if they are almost an afterthought in the design process of a building. While car parks are the most unappealing part of the building it is also in reality the first point of entry and the first interaction the customer has with the building and perhaps the last one too. Hence this space needs much more focus and design to surge the visitor’s experience with any building. With the launch of a new product from Jotun, the brand which preserves its customer love, car parks will soon look a lot brighter.

Available in colours never imaginable in carparks, Jotashield Carbo, with its anti-carbonation properties, not only protects the carpark walls, columns and ceilings from the vehicular exhausts that are capable of damaging the concrete, but with its high liquid water resistance and breathability, ensures that the concrete is safe from the damages that any entrapped moisture can cause. Tested for reflectivity and easy to clean properties, it brightens up the space and performs better against stains that are likely to be present in car parks.

“Our latest innovation Jotashield Carbo, is a result of insightful discussions that we had with Jotun users, consultants, architects and the unique needs for their car parks. Animated, colourful, bright, protected, clean: were some of the adjectives the users of Jotun wanted their car parks to imitate. And in keeping with all these needs and some of the unique challenges of carbonation and stains that car parks are faced with, the new product research was initiated,” said Osman Bara, Sales Manager for Decorative Projects in Jotun Qatar during the product launch and roll-out into the Qatari market.

“The car parks are exposed to high degree of pollution and stains that are very specific. Car parks are unique spaces with unique requirements,” added Osman.

After all the discussions, Jotun identified four key features that had to be incorporated in the new product: the product had to withstand conditions that are unique to car parks, like carbonation, stains that were consistent with car parks should be removable, it should brighten up the space and have a range of colours to be used from. None of the products in the market delivers all these unique needs and hence the product from Jotun is indeed a revelation to the construction industry with all its unique features.

One of the biggest challenges that car parks face is the variety of stains it acquires, from carbonated drink spills, to ice cream stains, smoke from cars to footprints and cigarette stub marks. But according to Osman Bara the new product Jotashield removes all these stains easily.“Jotashield Carbo is the product that is designed especially for car parks with features of anti-carbonation that fights carbon emissions and reduces wear and tear, easy to clean with all the stains that were mentioned earlier, a good reflectivity that brightens up the dark spaces, and a variety of colours for this space,” says Osman.

Anti-carbonation is the core property of a Carbo coating and is a core requirement of a car park paint. This feature protects the concrete from two external forces, carbon dioxide from the smoke and water. It is important to protect the space from these two elements as the steel that provides strength to the structure corrodes over time when exposed to these two elements over time. Jotashield is a coating over the wall that does not allow carbon dioxide from going inside the concrete and getting in touch with metal, it also allows the moisture from within the walls to evaporate thus reducing any chances of corroding. This adds more life to the concrete.

Car parks are dark spaces, according to Osman and it is very important for a car park paint to reduce the gloominess of the space.
