Sculpted Spaces by Imperfettolab at Milan Design Week 2025

At the heart of Milan Design Week 2025, Imperfettolab presented a bold and poetic statement—blending sculpture, functionality, and imagination. Known for its signature balance between nature and illusion, tradition and innovation, Imperfettolab presented a multifaceted showcase across several venues in Milan, offering visitors a deep dive into its expressive universe.

Imperfettolab is more than a design studio—it’s a family-run-business, a workshop, with a constant flow of creative energy. Based in Italy, the studio produces handmade pieces that challenge traditional categories of furniture and art. Through fiberglass, sanded and shaped by hand, the studio transforms imperfection into beauty. Their works—ranging from serial pieces to limited editions—are known for their sculptural presence, primal forms, and surreal aesthetic.

Their signature style thrives on contrast: raw yet refined, organic yet precise, timeless yet futuristic. By decomposing and reinventing classical forms, Imperfettolab creates functional objects that feel like relics from another world. In 2024, they opened Imperfettogallery in Milan to foster creative dialogue and become a new hub for the design-forward community.

Imperfettolab’s installation at Salone del Mobile

The installation was a meticulously designed dual-space experience. The first area is open, bright, and immersive, spotlighting the brand’s iconic designs. Visitors were invited to view the pieces from every angle, as they appear suspended, elevated on multi-level platforms.

The second, more secluded zone houses three intimate rooms that reflect Imperfettolab’s concept of “habitat.” It’s here that the brand invites a deeper, more emotional engagement with space and design.

Between these two contrasting areas stands UNO, a sculptural ram that symbolises genesis and rebirth. It occupies a central, contemplative position—bridging the heritage of the past with the vision of the future.

Unveiled at the fair is Vestigia, Imperfettolab’s new collection. Drawing inspiration from fictional relics, these pieces reinterpret ancient forms using modern materials. The designs resist the pull of technological simplification. Instead, they celebrate raw materiality, presenting handcrafted works that blend archaic charm with contemporary vision. Think wild yet metaphysical—an unmistakable signature of the brand.

One highlight of Vestigia is MATAU, a sculptural seat and chaise longue that plays with perception. It destabilises at first glance but quickly proves both solid and comfortable.

With its tall, narrow form, MATAU engages with silhouettes from the past while forging its own distinctive identity.

Dialogues Across Disciplines

Parallel to their presence at the Salone, Imperfettolab expanded its reach with events across Milan. The celebration marks the first anniversary of Imperfettogallery, their flagship gallery space on the Naviglio Grande.

To commemorate this milestone, the gallery presented a new chapter of “Sodalizi Temporanei”—artistic collaborations that fuse diverse disciplines and mediums. On the ground floor, Imperfettolab invites Henzel Studio to engage in a visual dialogue where Calle Henzel’s monumental rugs interact with the sculptural works of Verter and Erich Turroni, culminating in “Arenaria”, an immersive installation that transforms the gallery into a suspended, timeless landscape.

Upstairs, the “I-livingspace” opens to reveal Imperfettolab’s vision of habitat, where design meets intimacy. Here, works from Bosa’s collection by Jaime Hayon, olfactory pieces from Omatiiq, and sound installations by Soundohm create a multisensory domestic environment that embodies the studio’s design philosophy.

This exploration continued at ARP Concept in Brera, where “Sodalizi Temporanei in Studio” brings together Imperfettolab, Omatiiq, and Bosa in a shared installation merging material, scent, and sculptural form. At CARLOCINQUE Gallery, the dialogue continued as Henzel Studio’s exclusive textiles meet limited-edition pieces from Imperfettolab’s new collection, blending art and collectible design.

Beyond gallery walls, Imperfettolab’s dreamlike presence expanded to the rooftop of the iconic 10 Corso Como, where fluid sculptural pieces like the “Trip bench” hovered between imagination and materiality. Finally, in “Enchanted Transitions”, an installation curated by César Giraldo at the Next Place Hotel, Imperfettolab participated in redefining hospitality through design, in collaboration with Medelhan and The Playful Living, under the vision of Giulio Cappellini.

Imperfettolab’s presence at Milan Design Week 2025 was less about grand declarations and more about quiet, deliberate exploration. In staying true to its roots while engaging with a broader creative community, Imperfettolab continues to evolve—thoughtfully, collaboratively, and always with a hint of the unexpected.
