When Salone del Mobile.Milano, the benchmark for global design and furniture innovation, arrives in Riyadh this November, it will mark a turning point for the region’s design landscape. Titled Red in Progress: Salone del Mobile.Milano Meets Riyadh, the three-day event (26–28 November 2025) will transform King Abdullah Financial District into a stage for design, dialogue, and business exchange.

Announced by Dr. Sumayah Al-Solaiman, CEO of Saudi Arabia’s Architecture and Design Commission, and Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano, the launch underscores the strategic partnership between the Commission and Federlegno Arredo Eventi S.p.A. Signed earlier this year, the collaboration seeks to forge professional connections, spotlight local talent, and drive sustainable innovation in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

A Bridge Between Riyadh and Milan

Dr. Al-Solaiman emphasised that the initiative strengthens Saudi Arabia’s role on the global stage: “The event will act as a bridge between Saudi and international designers, broadening knowledge-sharing with leading institutions and fostering collaboration that actively contributes to the growth of our creative industries.”

Maria Porro echoed this sentiment, framing Riyadh as a site where ideas take tangible form: “Riyadh is the place where vision becomes city. With this first event we are not simply showcasing Italian design, but creating a working space where collaboration and content meet, and ideas become places.”

A Preview of What’s to Come

The inaugural Riyadh edition will feature more than 35 Made in Italy brands alongside Saudi designers, offering a preview of the larger, fully articulated Salone del Mobile planned for 2026. The focus is resolutely business-first: connecting firms with Saudi contractors, developers, and architects, while facilitating knowledge transfer on interiors, mega-projects, and sustainable practices.

At the centre of the venue, Giò Forma’s scenographic installation will turn the raw energy of a construction site into a cultural platform. Draped in semi-transparent red fabric, a modular scaffolding structure becomes both stage and symbol—red as a thread of energy, future, and transformation.

Beyond the Fairground

The programme extends beyond exhibition walls. A Forum of masterclasses and round tables will explore Saudi Arabia’s urban transformation; a Business Lounge designed by Lissoni & Partners will host private meetings and presentations with key decision-makers; and site visits to Riyadh’s giga-projects will provide Italian brands with direct exposure to the Kingdom’s development pipeline.

Meanwhile, a Lifestyle Area curated with KAFD retailers and Italian-Saudi F&B brands will introduce the convivial rituals of Italian living, further blurring cultural and professional boundaries

Designed in Saudi

The Architecture and Design Commission will also spotlight flagship national initiatives, including Designed in Saudi, which empowers emerging Saudi designers and positions the Kingdom as a global design destination. Institutional partners such as the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Trade Agency will lend further weight, reinforcing cultural and economic ties between Italy and Saudi Arabia.

A Collaboration of Design

With Red in Progress, Riyadh is not just hosting another design event, it is prototyping the future of cultural and commercial exchange between Italy and Saudi Arabia. More than a showcase, it is a working platform where red, the colour of energy, signals a region building its creative economy.
