That is the elaborate set design that Cun Designs, an integrated design team of diverse professional, avant-garde and young designers, has created. Working at the integration of architecture, space and time, this team believes that design has no limitation.

Young and thriving to innovate, the team believes in “living for design”, according to Cui Shu, the design director and founder of Cun Designs.

“In order to achieve a commercial circular line, we deconstructed the two blocks and removed the barrier wall to make a dynamic pace for movement. Meanwhile, to meet

different business needs, three entrances were set up: entrance A in the main exhibition hall, entrance B with exhibition facing the street, and the most important entrance C leading to the mall, forming the internal business flow,” explains Cui Shu, about the design directives followed.

This is a space design of Lupard Lightning, located in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, covering an area of 600 square meters. The design was arrived after analyzing the structure of the consumer base, the brand culture as well as the brand logo, which is a very geometrical leopard.

“The design focuses on the kind of environment the light should be put in. In this case, the design values the environment of the light, instead of the environment of the lamps. The ceiling and the cut-outs dropping from the ceiling in a curious and random fashion is inspired by the muscles of the leopard in the logo. The box directing downward prevents the blending of different lights. The unique light fittings in the grey area brings attention to the design of the space too without the consumer being aware of it. At the extension part of the protruding box, there is a touch screen that presents information of the light fitting, through which consumers get access to the features of each product on display,” explains Cui.

The entire space is in a dark shade of green, which is the colour of the logo, and the resin floor paint features Chinese ink painting making the floor exhibit a green aurora that is projected by the box. Process modules are displayed in the central area of the exhibition hall. To make sure that the lights from different wall lamps do not intermingle and every wall light can be displayed on its own, the walls have a slight inclination. Breaking the traditional method, the front desk integrates service area. A slanted front desk area was built in conjunction to the perspective of main entrance. And a logo wall of Lupard was made in the end. The shape of logo is a combination of metal and blocks, in which the three-dimensional effect of strength and dynamic tension represents the spirit of Lupard.

The dynamic nature of the space is evident with the subtle play of colours and strong forms using our sense of memory to evoke a connect to the logo. The shape of ceiling is disassembled by the leopard’s muscle in logo.

The uniqueness of lighting products in grey material area makes consumers pay more attention to the shape of product itself.

While the entire setting is to give the main characters of the space, the light fittings, get its due focus, an illusionary story is used to add to the drama created.

“Futurism is an illusory possibility, so we believe that the unpredictable romance in space can represent the futuristic feeling. I try to convey the uncertainty of future in all my designs,” says Cui.

All this while making sure that the space is not over crowded with design features and elements taking away the attention from its key elements.“Each of our design tries to be accurate. The purpose is not to directly pursue simplicity and minimalism. The reason is more likely that people have greater acceptance of simple space design styles and simple lifestyle. Therefore, our design is aimed at accuracy wrapped in a simplistic presentation, which makes the design more suitable for a wider group of people and business operations.”
