Artevo: Bringing Art Installations to Life in Doha
While artists envision forms in art, Artevo transforms these visions into reality through expert craftsmanship, innovative solutions, and an unwavering commitment to quality. At the heart of Artevo is Osan Ghaddaf, Founder and Creative Director, who has played a pivotal role in directing, constructing and fabricating some of Qatar’s most significant public art installations. Recently, Aspire Park unveiled the largest work by Iraqi-French artist Mehdi Moutashar, a monumental piece of geometric abstraction that embodies Moutashar’s rich cultural influences and artistic journey. This stunning installation, precise in form and harmonious with its surroundings, was realized with expertise now available right in Doha.
Another large installation called Milestone, shown as the featured image, by Shua’a Ali marks the milestone acheivements of the nation and stands as a testament to the progress made by this country.
Behind many of the monumental sculptures defining the city’s landscape — one that earned Doha the reputation as the capital of public art installations during FIFA 2022— is a man and a design firm whose skill brings artistic concepts to life, ensuring the installations endure time and weather.
The Man Behind Artevo

Osan Ghaddaf, Founder & Creative Director, Artevo.
Osan Ghaddaf, a graduate of the Royal Dutch Academy of Fine Arts with a degree in multidisciplinary design, began his career as a creative director, steadily climbing the ranks within a multinational agency in Netherlands before expanding his expertise to the Middle East. With extensive experience in design, his journey eventually led him back to his roots, curating artwork for the hospitality industry.
“I started the company, then called Atkya Art, in 2017, selecting, procuring, and designing artworks for hospitality projects. I also collaborated with artists, helping them integrate their disciplines into various projects,” Osan explains.
Artevo, formerly Atkya Art, boasts over two decades of advisory expertise in art, design, and architecture. The rebranding was part of a transformative journey to reflect the company’s commitment to perpetual artistic growth and innovation.
“The transition to Artevo refined our image and reinforced our mission of delivering immersive, high-quality art experiences that resonate on both local and international scales,” Osan adds.
Osan credits his late father, Ali Ghaddaf, as his greatest mentor and inspiration.
“My father was one of the founding artists in the region. He collaborated extensively with other artists, and from him, I learned that art consultancy is not just about curating but also about facilitating collaboration between artists and different mediums,” he says.
We sit down with Osan in his minimalistic and stark office interiors to have a long chat about the journey Artevo has travelled to reach where they are now.
SCALE: Which project helped establish Artevo’s reputation for detail and quality?
Osan: One of our landmark projects was curating art for Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas in 2018. This project showcased our meticulous attention to detail and ability to create immersive artistic environments, solidifying our reputation as leaders in art consultancy.

Since 2020, Qatar has welcomed luxury hospitality brands such as Hilton, Raffles, Fairmont, Rosewood, and Waldorf Astoria, each requiring art consultants to curate artworks reflecting their unique identity. At Artevo, we understand that every hotel has a story, and our expertise lies in translating that narrative into curated art collections.
SCALE: How does Artevo bring artistic drawings to life in 3D?
Osan: Our process begins with research and ideation, followed by briefing, consultancy, and design development. We work closely with artists, leveraging advanced techniques to transform conceptual drawings into stunning 3D realities.
SCALE: What has been the most challenging material to work with, and can you share an example?

Shua’a Ali explores the relationship between past and present-day Doha through Tawazun. Through the symbolic stacking of materials, she creates visionary, balanced, and agglomerative sculptural forms that speak to the city’s evolution.
Osan: Working with various types of stones posed a significant challenge during the creation of the Tawazun Sculpture. Achieving the delicate balance and intricate geometric forms required meticulous craftsmanship, symbolising Qatar’s resilience and progress. This project exemplifies our expertise in overcoming material constraints to deliver exceptional results.
SCALE: Which was your first public art installation in Qatar?

‘The Eon,” a magnificent sculpture designed and fabricated by the esteemed British sculptor David Harber.
Osan: Our first major installation was in Lusail City for Al Khaliji Bank, now known as Al Rayan Bank. At the time, it was one of the few banks allocating significant funds for public art. We worked with three international artists:
The Eon by British sculptor David Harber, symbolising the bank’s brand identity.
Papillon, a three-meter bronze sculpture by Ken Kelleher.
The Drop, an installation by my late father, Ali Ghaddaf, featuring meticulously forged stainless steel droplets with a mirror-like sheen.
SCALE: High-quality fabrication was once considered impossible in Doha, yet Artevo has achieved it. How did you elevate your standards?

Artworks for 21 High Street Residence in Katara Cultural Village by Artevo.
Osan: Artevo integrates local expertise with international techniques. We collaborate with renowned artists, adhere to rigorous quality standards, and invest in state-of-the-art technology, allowing us to produce world-class art right here in Doha.
SCALE: Tell us about the Tawazun Sculpture. How difficult was it to achieve balance on the rock structure? Were there any other equally challenging projects?

Tawazun, a play of materials.
Osan: Tawazun represents the balance between Qatar’s heritage and modernity. Achieving the precise alignment of granite, sandstone, and limestone was a major challenge. Collaborating with artist Shua’a Ali, we ensured the sculpture embodied symbolic equilibrium.
Engineering played a crucial role. Scaling the small model into a monumental structure required detailed calculations, material sourcing, and structural reinforcements, especially since the site had an underground parking area.

Milestone symbolises the transformation of Qatar’s financial systems, from the days of pearl diving to the emergence of a modern, diversified economy. The gold stone within the sculpture symbolizes wealth and prosperity, reflecting the transformation of Grand Hamad Street into a bustling financial district and gold souq.
Another formidable project was Milestone, also by Shua’a Ali, symbolising Qatar’s transformation from a pearl-diving economy to a financial powerhouse. The 10-ton stone installation was five times larger than Tawazun, with intricate details like ropes symbolising traditional diving expeditions and gold elements representing Qatar’s economic progress.

The ropes wrapped around the sculpture signify the traditional pearl diving expeditions.
SCALE: What has been your biggest takeaway from your work and collaborations?
Osan: The power of collaboration and innovation. Every project reinforces the importance of diverse perspectives, embracing challenges, and committing to excellence. To creatives, I advise fostering genuine connections and drawing inspiration from the world around them.

“Dama” – a board game similar to Checkers or Draughts, historically cherished by Qatari fishermen during their tranquil moments at sea by Shua’a Ali.
SCALE: Do you feel unrecognized, given that the artists receive most of the credit?
Osan: While artists are in the spotlight, the joy of bringing ideas to life is a reward in itself. Our commitment to quality and creativity earns us trust and respect, which is the ultimate recognition.
SCALE: Who continues to inspire you in life and work?
Osan: My greatest mentor and inspiration remains my late father, Ali Ghaddaf. His artistic journey, spanning over 40 years, included global exhibitions and iconic contributions to art spaces. His philosophy of collaboration and relentless pursuit of beauty continues to guide me, and his legacy remains my compass in creativity and dedication.

This artwork called Generations in Harmony interweaves the figures of son, father, and grandfather, creating a visual representation of the enduring connections that link families across time. By merging traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics, Shouq Al Mana has crafted a piece that pays homage to both the legacy of the past and the innovations of the present.
