Autumn is Here
Brazilian designers of Furf Design Studio have created Autumn, a collection of products created from leaf fabric, a creation that marries the best of nature with human creativity.
Autumn is the first collection of products in the world created with leaf fabric. The result of five years of research, this material is produced by the only organic tannery in the world, Nova Kaeru. The material has characteristics very similar to bovine leather, with the notable difference that the CO2 emission of its manufacturing process is offset by the carbon absorption of planting and leaf growth, that is, it is one of the most sustainable options existing today. In other words, its production cleans the environment. Unlike most other coatings of vegetable origin, the leaf blanket is tanned and is not mixed with other types of fibers, polymers or chemicals, which maintains the beauty of its look, textures, and natural shapes. This vegan material is a cutting-edge Brazilian innovation, developed in the heart of the rainforest in the interior of Rio de Janeiro. The robust structure is produced industrially in recycled steel, with welding and finishing done by hand. The six feet refer to both creatures and a functional spatial aesthetic. A hybrid between the industrial and artisanal, the sterile and the fertile, the past and the future. This furniture is another result of Furf’s obsession with creating manifest products for the expansion of awareness. An injection of optimism: together, it is possible to design a better tomorrow. With Autumn a new chapter in history begins. It unites the best of Mother Nature ‘s intelligence with human creativity. A new possibility, with more sustainability, intelligence, and poetry. Founded in 2011 in Curitiba (Brazil) by Mauricio Noronha and Rodrigo Brenner, both part of Forbes UNDER30 list, the internationally multi-awarded Furf Design Studio has been building a global reputation for high-quality products coupled with generous doses of intelligence, humor, sustainability, and social responsibility. Their “ability to imbue a project with poetry and romance” was highlighted by Italian curator Paola Noe. Furf is part of the permanent collection of MUDE – Museum of Design and Fashion of Portugal and frequently exhibits at renowned events such as the Milan Design Week (Italy), WIRED Health (England) and eight other countries.
