Behind-the-Scenes of Fabscarte Handmade Narratives
In a quiet Milanese workshop, age-old artistry finds expression through paper, pigment, and passion. At Fabscarte, tradition is not just preserved, it is transformed using innovative ideas. Founded by Luigi Scarabelli and Emilio Brazzoloto, the brand is redefining luxury interiors through handcrafted wallpapers that blend classical inspiration with modern sensibility.
With nearly 30 years of experience behind them, Luigi Scarabelli and Emilio Brazzoloto, along with a team of young artisans, have created more than just a studio, they’ve cultivated a philosophy. Fabscarte is a celebration of material, touch, and colour, where each surface becomes a canvas of experimentation and craftsmanship. The workshop thrives on a deep connection with nature and the fine arts, using these influences to shape a distinctive visual language for interiors.

“Fabscarte’s wallpapers are not just decorative elements; they are sensorial experiences. Rich textures, hand-painted motifs, and custom finishes come together to create unique pieces that elevate spaces into realms of visual sophistication. Each work is bespoke, tailored meticulously to the needs of the project, ensuring that no two pieces are ever the same,” says Luigi Scarabelli, one of the founders.
Rooted in Italian tradition yet boldly contemporary, Fabscarte continues to push the boundaries of what wallpaper can be. The brand’s mission is simple: to disseminate beauty, one handcrafted surface at a time.
“Real craftsmanship is a continuous process. It’s about moving a venerated art form along the creative continuum – experimentally and completely by hand,” says Emilio.
From the careful preparation of base textures to the intricate layering of pigments and relief decorations, Fabscarte’s process is a testament to patience, skill, and passion. Their work transforms interiors, not only visually but also emotionally, inviting a slower, deeper way of experiencing space.

“Fabscarte’s creative process is born from a deep emotion, a feeling that goes beyond trends and time. Each project takes shape through a careful exploration of materials and techniques, but above all, thanks to a unique artisanal sensitivity that transforms an idea into a visual and tactile story.
“From this starting point, we begin experimenting with materials. Our work always starts with a simple roll of paper, on which we build dimensionality right from the background by adding tissue paper, pigments, and other elements. Each paper requires specific treatments tailored to the pattern: we love to enhance texture using materials like plaster or glazing techniques, creating surfaces that are vibrant, alive, and rich in depth.” says Luigi.
Nature Whisper

The Bedroom by Champalimaud Design at L’Appartamento by Artemest
During the Milan Design Week 2025, for ‘The Bedroom space at L’Appartamento by Artemest’, reimagined by the New York-based Champalimaud Studio, Fabscarte created “Nature Whisper,” an exclusive, hand-painted wallpaper designed to transform interiors into intimate and refined retreats.
The design reflects Fabscarte’s hallmark style: an elegant blend of art and material research, executed with meticulous handcraft and poetic precision.
“”Nature Whisper” captures a quiet, imagined moment in nature. A breeze moves through a garden, rustling branches full of golden fruit and releasing the scent of citrus and resin into the air. This scene is brought to life through ivory-glazed backgrounds and soft, watercolor-style foliage layered with subtle stucco textures. Each panel is finished by hand with tissue paper, adding texture and making every piece unique. With this work, Fabscarte reinforces its approach to wall art, not just as decoration, but as an immersive, sensory experience,” says the founder.
A Journey Through New Craftsmanship
Simultaneously, at SaloneSatellite, Fabscarte offered a compelling exhibition under the theme “New Craftsmanship: A New World.” Here, the brand invited visitors into its world of creative exploration, where innovation and tradition meet in a fluid and ongoing dialogue.
Each creation presented at the stand was a result of intensive research and a deep respect for Italian craftsmanship. This immersive setup allowed the audience to understand how design can be both avant-garde and rooted in legacy.
“A hand-painted paper has a vibrant and authentic presence. Its imperfections, the way light plays on the reliefs, the tangible texture you can feel, all of this creates a unique atmosphere.

Variations of the Ginkgo fabric by Fabscarte.
The “Ginkgo” pattern, in our view, best embodies the essence of Fabscarte’s work. Inspired by the leaves of the ginkgo biloba, it is crafted through layers of tissue paper and natural earth glazes. This paper expresses attention to detail and the poetry of artisanal craftsmanship, transforming the wall into a lively and dynamic surface. Many people tell us that with our papers, they can experience a room more tangibly, more “real,” as if the space itself is telling a story.” says Luigi.
