The brand was founded in 1989 with the sole intention to create art without restraint. Their handcrafted lighting sculptures radiate passion and leave a long-lasting impression on the beholder. The fundamental ingredient of all their concepts is craftsmanship and knowledge of handmade, artisanal production. They obtained international fame more than 20 years ago with their first lighting sculpture, a special Chandelier that became an instant icon. Since then Brand van Egmond has become an international trendsetter in creating innovative, independent lighting designs. The Brand was established by William Brand, who was trained as an architect at the Utrecht School of Arts, after which he evolved into a lighting designer.

Galaxy, just like its name suggests, is an artistic manifestation of the constellation of stars, or energy sources.  Propelling away from the center of gravity towards clouds of stardust and outer planets. Orbiting through space, the composition offers a different experience when seen from different angles. Through an interaction between lines and globes, the energy and movement is made visible. Avant-Garde by nature, the shapes and forms of the Galaxy relate to each other as the planets towards the sun. The artist and the dreamer both know, space is where an image grows.

William Brands says: “Geometry is to open up the mind, towards what has always lain behind the construction of time and space; the illusion that time and space construct.  Light is the principal beauty for a space: it determines and expresses simultaneously.”
