EUGENI QUITLLET

Catalan industrial designer

Eugeni Quitllet celebrates his birthday on April 17 every year at the Milano Design Week with a special tribute stamped in creativity to the event. This year, he sadly finds himself without such an occasion to celebrate. But that does not stem his creative spirit. His contribution this year, though virtual, captures all the beauty of the material and the imaginations of his story.

“In this particular moment, I feel like Robinson Crusoe,” says Eugeni as he envisions this creation. “Thinking about what will happened to one of my design during this confinement period if it was left to the wild nature, with no human intervention.”

He imagines ivy covering it creating a new structure.

“I’m seeing at this moment how nature is taking its place back from everywhere, in the sea, in the air, in the ground, in the city, and now in design. Listening to nature with all my senses in the wild I feel that tomorrow we will be closer to this beautiful harmony and we will grow chairs like vegetables and modify seeds genetically to grow new designs,” he muses quite imaginatively.

Eugeni recently won the Ibiza Good Design Award for Vondom, a chair made out of waste obtained from the sea.

His invented future is gravity-free, with incredible aesthetics summarised in a combination of digital precision and flowing curves.
